Level 4 girls at Nasir Academy, York, raise over $1,500 for Humanity First Disaster Relief

YORK REGION, ON — On Sunday, 8 February 2026, a group of twelve-year-old girls at Nasir Academy York proved that the spirit of selfless service knows no age. The Level 4 Girls class hosted a bake sale in support of the Humanity First Disaster Relief program, raising an amazing amount of $1,516.84

Planning for the event began weeks in advance, with the goal of collectively undertaking a community service project. In January, the students voted to direct the proceeds to the Disaster Relief program through Humanity First. They chose the name “Sweet Storms” for the bake sale, and two students collaborated to paint a banner by hand. On the morning of the event, students from the Level 4 class arrived early to help set up the tables.

Students and teaching staff from all levels at Nasir Academy York, were invited to bake and donate goods for the sale. The offerings ranged from brownies, cupcakes, cookies, and cake pops to pizza, hot chocolate, chaat, and mango juice. Through the combined dedication of students and parents, what began as a classroom initiative became a school-wide expression of generosity.

Hazrat Musleh Maud (ra) once observed that “nations cannot be reformed without the reformation of the youth.” [Friday Sermon, 1 April 1938] It is with this principle in mind that events such as these hold lasting value. When young people engage in charitable endeavours at an impressionable age, the habits of financial sacrifice and passion for Jama’at service take root early and deepen over the course of a lifetime.

May Allah the Almighty reward these students for their hard work and enable them to continue in charitable endeavours throughout their lives. Ameen.
