National Indigenous Peoples Day celebrated in Mission, BC

by June 24, 2026

Alhamdulillah, Abbotsford Jama’at organised an event in observance of National Indigenous Peoples Day at Heritage Park in Mission, BC, on 19 June 2026.

National Indigenous Peoples Day recognises and honours the heritage, diverse cultures, and enduring contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples across Canada. For the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at, hosting an event in its observance reflects a teaching that lies at the heart of its motto, “Love for All, Hatred for None.” Reaching across communities, sharing a meal, and listening to one another are small but meaningful expressions that help in building bonds with our Indigenous brothers.

Gatherings of this kind also offer an opportunity to introduce the peaceful message of Islam Ahmadiyyat to neighbours who may never have had a chance to meet or speak to a Muslim before.

A team of eight volunteers from Abbotsford Jama’at served the wider community throughout the day, preparing and distributing BBQ meals to more than 250 attendees. The aroma drew a steady stream of visitors, and alongside the food, volunteers shared flyers introducing Islam and Ahmadiyyat with those who stopped to talk.

The program also included a brief introductory address delivered by Sadr Abbotsford Jama’at, welcoming guests and explaining the spirit in which the event had been organised. As the gathering drew to a close, the Mission Friendship Centre presented a beautiful depiction of Indigenous culture, a fitting reflection of the day’s spirit of shared heritage and mutual respect.

Days such as this remind us that service to humanity knows no boundaries of faith or background, and that the simple act of standing shoulder to shoulder with one’s neighbours can speak louder than any words.
