For Ahmadi Muslims across Canada, Eid ul-Adha on Wednesday, 27 May 2026, began with the guidance of Hazrat Khalifatul Masih V (aba). Huzoor (aba) led the Eid prayer at the Mubarak Mosque in Islamabad, UK, and delivered the Eid sermon to the congregation present, an address that members the world over make a particular effort to follow live on MTA International.
Following the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (sa), all the Jama’ats in Canada then held their own Eid prayers and celebrations locally.

Key points from the sermon
Reciting verse 38 of Surah al-Hajj, Huzoor (aba) reminded the Jama’at that neither the flesh nor the blood of the sacrifice reaches Allah; what reaches Him is the righteousness, the taqwa, of the one who offers it. The real sacrifice Islam asks for is the sacrifice of the inner self.
- True taqwa is granted only after a person attains genuine recognition (ma’rifat) of Allah. Taqwa means acting upon His commandments, and no one is rewarded merely on account of righteous forebears, since each person is answerable for their own conduct.
- Worship and morality are inseparable. Alongside safeguarding the obligatory prayers and offering voluntary prayers (nawafil), a believer must raise the standard of their speech and conduct and fulfil the rights owed to fellow human beings.
- Taqwa is shown in how one treats others: meeting harshness with gentleness, restraining anger, avoiding disputes, and being willing to bear a small loss for the sake of peace. The acceptance of prayer itself depends on treading this path.
- A true Ahmadi is known by a visible transformation within, not by an outward association with the Promised Messiah (as) alone. Even a trace of ostentation causes a deed to be rejected, so sincerity is everything.
- Trials test whether the spirit of sacrifice is real. Huzoor (aba) recalled the Holy Prophet Muhammad (sa) standing almost alone at the Battle of Uhud as the supreme example of courage and forbearance in the way of Allah.
- Sacrificing an animal brings no benefit without this inner reality. To celebrate Eid ul-Adha truly is to give precedence to faith over worldly matters and to remain ready to sacrifice one’s life, wealth, time and honour for the sake of Allah.
Huzoor (aba) asked the Jama’at to pray especially for the Ahmadis of Pakistan, who continue to face restrictions on their worship and their offering of sacrifice under oppressive laws, and for those imprisoned in the way of Allah. He prayed that Allah would accept the sacrifices even of those compelled to offer their Eid prayers in secret, and extended Eid Mubarak to all.
Celebrations across Canada

The celebrations spanned the country, from Vancouver on the Pacific coast to St. John’s in Newfoundland and Labrador. In the larger population centres, such as Calgary and the Greater Toronto Area, neighbouring chapters combined their gatherings at larger venues, allowing many members to come together and celebrate Eid as one, while smaller communities marked the day at their own mosques and centres. Throughout, the atmosphere carried the warmth that defines Eid, with children, elders and new members alike joining in the embraces, meals and well-wishes that mark the morning.
